AUSTRALIA

Most of the opal in the world today comes from Australia.  Other producing countries are Ethiopia, Brazil and Mexico.

There are three main types of opal found in Australia.

  • White based opal and crystal from Coober Pedy in South Australia
  • Black and Grey based opal from Lightning Ridge
  • Boulder Opal, which are lines of opal in sandstone rock coming from large areas in the outback of Western Queensland

Our opal dealers are based in Australia. They roam the Opal fields buying rough as it comes out of the mines, take it back to their workshop where they cut all of their stones themselves then travel the world visiting their clients, selling to jewellery designers and manufacturers.
