The desire for knowledge is first stimulated in us when remarkable phenomena attract our attention. For it to continue we must find a deeper sympathetic connection, which will lead us by degree to a deeper acquaintance with the subject.

Susi Smither FGA, GIA JDT

Even growing up surrounded by the minerals her parents collected, it wasn't until she studied her Diploma in Gemmology at The Gemmologicial Association of Great Britain, that Susi discovered her true passion.

She was intoxicated by the mixture of geeky science and aesthetically beautiful natural wonders. Added to which, is a distinct link to human nature which can't be ignored when visiting mining projects in some of the poorest countries in the world.

With over eight years of hands on experience, combined with her jewellery design training at the GIA, her aim with The Rock Hound is to produce collections of jewellery which hold our principles of responsible sourcing at its core.  Along the way she hopes to give people a glimpse into the enticing world of gemmology and to bring a greater level of transparency.

Nikki Marie Jackson

Nikki graduated University with a degree in Visual Arts. She went on to work as a freelance illustrator whilst subsidising her crippling rent and penchant for luxury stationery with various part time roles. After working with a number of creative start ups she found her home at The Rock Hound. Nikki is a woman of many hats and works across all departments from social media, merchandising, marketing to designing greetings cards (coming soon to the online shop). Through The Rock Hound funded training, Nikki has just completed a Jewellery Design course at Central Saint Martins, London and is currently working her way through the JET Business Development Diploma with The National Association of Jewellers.

Working at The Rock Hound enables Nikki to utilise both her creative and management background to help deliver more of an impact where it matters. She is thoroughly enjoying delving into the world of jewellery and hopes to be able to create a culture that will allow people to learn and develop through the work of The Rock Hound.
